New Year Resolutions!

Since all the cool kids are doing it, I thought I would post my Resolutions for 2009. I guess there is a certain level of accountability when a list is posted online rather than in a personal notebook. Here’s what I resolve to do in 2009:

1) Be Healthier: A common resolution but I’ve been on a good path during the past few months. This means eating more vegetables, less junk (sugary and salty treats), exercise on a more regular basis, take enough time or me.

2) Drink Less, Maybe Not At All: This is a big one. I want to change my lifestyle and not have all of my social activities revolve around alcohol. I’m hoping to cut it out for the whole year but to be realistic, I just want to drink less. Two bonuses with this: less calories and less cost.

3) Find Employment That Makes Me Smile: I am searching for a job right now but not just anything. I want to find something that encourages excitement in the morning. I want to find a job that is both enjoyable and fulfilling.

4) Focus On Dating: I’ve spent just a little too much time dating random dudes from bars. I’m looking for a relationship and that will never happen if I keep dating the same types of people. It’s time for a change… no more dating guys that add “z” to the end of words in text messages.

5) Run The San Francisco Half Marathon: This goes back to number 1 but I want to jun in the Half Marathon at the end of July. This will be tough but I know I can do it if I focus.

Happy New Year!

Favorite Viral Video Hit of 2008

The viral video has been cranking out random hits for a while now. I have to guess that this one was the biggest surprised. The original footage is more than three decades old (based on the hair and clothes styles) but with a little bit of creative text and Whitney Houston, the video was the runaway Viral hit in my mind. Enjoy!

Yes, I cry every time I watch it.

The Holidays are coming to a close

Although I’ve been a bit busy job hunting and being sick (yuck!), I did take the time to watch a little television… maybe a little too much TV. Here’s my absolute favorite commercial of the season:

Change is good…

The idea for this post came from a comment I made on Twitter last night: “weird place in life… craving the life i recently left but wanting a balance that cannot be achieved with that life… eeeeeek!”

As I’ve made clear, I recently left my public relations job. My focus was technology account which drove my love of technology. I still love technology but my day to day life has become about the job hunt rather than other (more fun) things. I did go to a going away party for a former coworker which reminded me about my interests not necessarily being tied to my job but myself. It’s funny, I haven’t even looked at Valleywag in 3 weeks!! For those that know me well, that’s an amazing accomplishment considering I was almost an addict.

My energies have focused less on technology and more on my person health. Alas, technology plays a big part in the as well. I’ve been using a few great sites to keep me on the healthy path. Here are a few of my favorite resources:

So far, so good. I’m feeling healthier and making better decision when it comes to food and making exercise a priority. That brings me back to the original idea on Twitter (posted after a few glasses of wine): “weird place in life… craving the life i recently left but wanting a balance that cannot be achieved with that life… eeeeeek!” My public relations lifestyle never allowed me the time to manage a good lifestyle, is it possible to have both?

On the hunt

The fact that I’m job hunting right now is no secret. The amazing part is the time commitment required to be successful. I spend most of my day online searching Craigslist and other job posting sites. The time spent on that portion of the search alone equals a full day. Then I go to a variety of company sites, search Twitter for relevant discussions, check Facebook and think very hard about updating my LinkedIn page.

I made the decision to leave my job and focus on the new job hunt because I couldn’t imagine doing both at the same time. Watching this video series for a little help:
