My dog Teddy is so adorable! To celebrate this awesome Labor day weekend, here’s a video of the cutie. It also happens to be my birthday weekend and although I’m fighting a cold, I’m hoping to enjoy beautiful San Francisco this weekend and stay away from the computer. More awesome posts headed your way next week ![]()

Things I Hate about Twitter
Aug 29
Something very odd happened this morning around 3am. I felt the need to check my Twitter feed. There are very few things I want to do at 3am other than sleep. Occasionally I’ll feel parched and need a glass of water but usually sleep in the only thing on my mind. So, I thought I would share my feelings about Twitter in a poem, “10 Things I Hate about You” style (yes, the poem from the movie).
I H@te Twitter
I hate the way you’re my home page
And the way you just appear on my phone.
I hate the way you let me know everything
I didn’t know I needed to know.
I hate your silly little tweets
And the way you eat up my time.
I hate you so much that it makes me sick
It even makes me rhyme.
I hate the way you’re always there
I hate the symbol
I hate it when the Fail Whale appears
Even if it makes me smile.
I hate it when I don’t have service
Or the fact that you were down.
But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you
Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.
Speed Dating geek style!
Aug 29
I found this video on ValleyWag this morning. Having participated in “real” speed dating before it was funny to watch the online speed dating featuring a few of my favorite bloggers such as iJustine. Oh, the awkwardness of suck meetings whether held on or offline. Watch and enjoy!
Event Recap: Once You’re Lucky, Twice You’re Good (A San Francisco Event)
Featuring: Sarah Lacy and Max Levchin
Date/Time: Monday, August 25th at 7pm
Location: Frog Design, 660 3rd Street, 4th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94107
On Monday, August 25th, the Churchill Club hosted an evening with Sarah Lacy and Max Levchin. Sarah Lacy is an award-winning journalist who recently published a book on Web 2.0, “Once You’re Lucky, Twice You’re Good: The Rebirth of Silicon Valley and the Rise of Web 2.0”. Max Levchin, founder of PayPal and Slide and angel investor in a host of other Web 2.0 names, is prominently featured in Lacy’s book. This event was an opportunity to listen to Lacy interview Levchin and then Levchin turn the tables and interview Lacy.
Levchin is originally from the former Soviet Union. The book digs deeper into his history and experience founding PayPal. Today he is leading Slide which allows users to use photos and other digital content to publish and discover the people and things that matter to that user. After having such huge success with PayPal, Levchin hungered to reach and beat that accomplishment. Slide is fundamentally an entertainment company and what attracted Levchin to an entertainment company was that entertainment is one of the few things that can get people “emotional on a tangible level”.
Lacy has been attracting a good amount of attention with the book and is currently on a 15 city book tour. Book tours are rarely encouraged by publishers due to the ship in the book purchasing market (from Brick and Mortar to online). Due to that, Lacy hosts her book discussions in bars and people’s homes in the various cities which allow her to interact with the true Web 2.0 enthusiasts. The key take away from the presentation was that those folks who are truly successful in the Web 2.0 world are confident people with great ideas who worked very hard. It was surprising to hear how few women are really involved at the higher level so hopefully that changes in Web 3.0 and beyond.

Monthly Mashable! a recap
Aug 23
On Thursday, August 21st, I attended the Monthly Mashable! event at ROE in the SOMA district of San Francisco. Anyone who knows me knows that I don’t mind attending these events alone but I was lucky enough to have two of my coworkers, Jenna and Janie, join me. Also in attendance was a colleague from the Austin office of my company, Kristine Gloria.
We were fortunate enough to meet a collection of interesting people from CNET (now CBSi), Microsoft and VentureBeat to name a few. For those of you who don’t know much about Mashable!, it’s a blog focused on the discussion of social media. Not surprisingly, social media was the central topic at the event with Twitter coming up in every conversation. It was funny to me since early in the day I had a conversation about Twitter being popular among the “Tech” crowd but folks outside of that world haven’t even heard about the micro-blogging site. Case in point, at a recent BBQ i hosted at my apartment, only one of my good friends from college had even heard about Twitter or Digg (a personal favorite). The only reason she was in the loop was because she works at InfoWorld.
It was an fun night and I’m looking forward to setting up a tour of the CNET offices soon. My only recommendation for upcoming events in to skip the Blue Cheese (it gets a little stinky after a few hours in a warm room).
My trip to the IDG offices
Aug 21
I took an interesting trip to the IDG offices yesterday, specifically the InfoWorld office. A friend of mine works there so I thought it would be fun to check out the space and learn more about the company. In April of 2007, the magazine moves from both print and online editions to only an online edition and over the past year and a half has had increased readership month over month.
I can’t say I’m surprised that InfoWorld has consistently high readership. Although the publication targets the geeky IT folks rather than the casual tech loving mainstream (the category I fall into), there are many articles/blogs/podcasts on the site that can be easily digested by the casual geek but still provide insight for those that are super techy. A good example is Tom Yager’s recent post, “In memory of iPhone 3G”. Tom Yager’s IPhone was stolen. What sucks more is that the iPhone was a loner from Apple. Regardless of where that phone may be, Tom writes a post about the transition from a BlackBerry to the iPhone. Tom weighs the pros and cons of both devices but I’m fairly sure he’s an iPhone convert.

On another iPhone note, LinkedIn has launched an application for the iPhone. As I discovered on VentureBeat this morning, the application is super straightforward and an awesome addition to my current application collection. I’ve never been a huge LinkedIn user so hopefully with mobile access I’ll be able to step it up.

Fast Company arrived today!
Aug 16
It’s hard to contain my excitement for the new Fast Company. I only recently subscribed and this is my first copy to arrive in the mail. Fast Company and I started our love affair a few issues ago when I discovered my first non-fashion magazine that I could truly enjoy. I love the writing, the cheesy pictures and even the texture of the page. Please enjoy the photo of my former friend, Tom (nope, I don’t have myspace anymore) and pick up a copy of your own.
